The Cornish Harvest was set up simply to support our local farmers and producers in the community, with the aim of showing that you can source some of the finest, highest quality and freshest produce that Cornwall has to offer right on your door step. By supporting many small farms, fisherman and Cornish producers this enables us to help create a long term sustainable future for farming, fishing and small businesses in Cornwall. We aim to be as convenient and competitive as the large supermarkets, but instead our money is being fed back into the local community supporting our local businesses rather than huge multi national companies.
So come on you have no excuse, get involved and support your locals!
Truthall Farm and Ninnis Farm
Local Farmers Treve Jacka and Micheal jacka, and their sons Richard, Mathew, Chris and Keith farm both Truthall Farm located on the outskirts of Helston and Ninnis Farm of Germoe. Supplying local cornish potatoes and fresh cauliflower to the local community. They also boast a range of store cattle, reared on the farm ready for the local butchers in the area. They work hard to ensure that all produce is of the highest quality. Using traditonal methods to ensure sustainability of the farm as these have less environmental impact.
Higher Boquio Organic Farm
Nick Still and Michelle Turner Of Higher Boquio Farm have been running a Soil Association certified organic farm for twelve years producing high quality organic free-range eggs and Aberdeen Angus beef. As Soil Association members their animals are kept to the highest welfare standards and chemicals or artificial fertilisers are not used on the land. They believe that this method of farming not only produces top quality eggs and beef but also has a huge impact on the biodiversity of the wildlife that can successfully live here. In addition, they are members of the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group (FWAG) whose knowledge has helped them continue creating and improving wildlife habitats. They leave ‘wild’ areas for Skylarks to nest in (to hear their song in the summer is a delight) and habitat for Owls to hunt. They have planted over 1000 trees as cover for the hens and to encourage a variety of wildlife a large pond has been created in the wetland area which has also provided additional variety of flora and fauna. All of the farms electricity is supplied by its ownsmall wind turbine with surplus exported to the national grid.
Sunset Farm
The Thomas family of Sunset Farm, Germoe grow their own carrots, parsnips and potatoes and supply these to many local shops and vegetable stalls in the area
Tregullas Farm
Tregullas Farm is the most southerly farm in mainland Britian. Not only home to Elsa's multi award winning Duck eggs that are produced from the free range ducks that roam the family farm, but a whole range of animals, including sheep, cattle, goats and chickens . Nevil, Rona and their family have been busy preparing the ground ready for the introduction of their new vegetable patch, looking to grow a range of fresh seasonable vegetables in the near future. When they are not hard at work with the animals they help preserve the famous lizard cliff paths running through their farm, grazing their livestock on the cliffs to help preserve wildlife and encourage rare plants to grow.
